Over the past year, companies have seen years of digital transformation compressed into a few weeks as they struggled to provide themselves with the right tools to address new ways of working. As the year progressed, these companies discovered that working remotely in a collaborative way is much more complex than just working remotely.

JIRA Work Management presents itself as a new type of Jira that facilitates intuitive ways to visualise work, as well as translating effort into business value and providing an inherent connection to technical teams that fosters cross-departmental collaboration.

1.New views designed for business teams

There are 5 new ways to manage work from “to-do” to “done” in JIRA Work Management. Each of them has been carefully designed and studied with the support of our customers and developed according to best practices to make work simple and enjoyable.

List

This new list view extends the intuitive spreadsheet experience to JIRA by incorporating inline editing for immediate performance and fast results visualisation. It’s an engaging and effective new way to manage work on any scale, from individual workloads to company-wide projects.

Calendar

The calendar view adds temporal context to your work in a way that is clearly visible and fully understandable. You can now view due dates and update work in an understandable format to enable faster and more efficient planning.

Roadmap

This new view is a refinement of the classic Gantt chart, designed to highlight the traceability and dependencies between activities performed by teams. Fields such as the Responsible User and Task Status are also added directly to the bars so that teams can instantly get a complete picture of their projects.

Dashboard

This dashboard view displays tasks in each of the steps that make up the workflow to which they belong, providing a flexible way to review, manage and exploit work in progress. Teams can design custom workflows and review how work evolves from “To do” to “Done”.

Forms

This view makes the coordination of projects taking into account the requirements of the teams involved really easy. It makes it possible to create drag-and-drop forms to collect requirements in a matter of seconds and define the work related to each project, reducing friction and communication problems between team members.

2.Instant conversion of effort into business value

Jira Work Management focuses on bringing value to teams from the very beginning. These teams can now take their first steps with the tool faster, extract value from it sooner and increase their productivity immediately:

  • Quick Start – Administrators and users can choose from 23 new project templates, covering all types, to streamline their creation. Each template includes a range of workflows and settings including custom fields, request types and permissions. In addition, administrators still have the ability to create new projects using existing configurations.
  • Extract value quickly – Business teams communicate and operate differently from technical teams, so we adapt Jira to their language.
  • o Team members will see tasks as asset (for design and marketing teams) and candidate (for HR and hiring teams) instead of the traditional nomenclature of stories and bugs used by development teams.
    o The left-hand navigation menu now highlights important functionality such as new views and forms, rather than functionality specific to software development processes such as code, backlog, releases and components. For business teams more familiar with software development concepts, administrators can incorporate components, epics and other elements into their projects.

  • Increase productivity – Full automation at the project level means teams are free to focus on the tasks that really make a difference. It is possible to select pre-configured rules from a new library dedicated to business teams or create new custom rules to suit each use case and each department. With Automation it is even possible to link with Slack, Microsoft Teams and email providers to extend the power of JIRA to other tools.

3.Native connection to technical equipment

Teamwork is most efficient when team members understand how their work fits into larger initiatives and how it impacts others. The shared architecture between JIRA Work Management, JIRA Software and JIRA Service Management allows information to flow seamlessly between projects regardless of which team and department they belong to. For example, requirements for a website update can come from customers via the JIRA Service Management service portal. Important designs and text can be created by layout artists and designers collaborating in JIRA Work Management and then passed on to developers using Jira Software to develop and implement the changes.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Teams and their leaders can also create dashboards through which the entire company can exploit information related to progress, blocking requests and workload. They can then define cross-departmental and cross-team roadmaps across their portfolio (via Advanced Roadmaps in JIRA Software Premium and JIRA Align). Relationships between teams will be enhanced and made visible regardless of level.

If you were already a Jira Sofware or Jira Service Management user you can ask your JIRA administrator to give you permissions to create new projects in JIRA Work Management. JIRA Work Management replaces the old JIRA Core, all existing JIRA Core Cloud have been migrated to JIRA Work Management.
